MOSCOW, Feb. 11 -2002: President Vladimir Putin hoisted a stop - or at least a detour - sign in front of America's accelerating war on terrorism: Iraq, said the Russian president, is “completely different” from Afghanistan and must not become a target for unilateral U.S. military action.

Bush issues new warning to Iraq

President says Saddam ‘needs to understand I am serious’

WASHINGTON, Feb. 13 — President Bush on Wednesday declined to rule out a military attack as a means of toppling Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, saying the United States will do what it must to defend itself and that Saddam “needs to understand I am serious.” The U.S. leader has said that the Baghdad regime, along with North Korea and Iran, is part of the “axis of evil,” and administration officials have become increasingly strident in their warnings about Iraq.
